At Alderbrook Care Home in Leeds, we’ve planned a month filled with warmth, connection, and festive cheer for our residents and their loved ones. Here’s how we’re making this December truly magical.
From tasting seasonal treats to singing along to favourite carols and songs, our team has lots planned this December. There really is something for everyone with trips out, physical activities like pampering therapies, exercise and golf, plus creative activities and visits from our local community. These moments not only spread festive cheer but also help nurture a sense of connection and wellbeing that is particularly important at this time of year.
Creative Christmas Crafts
Earlier this month, residents enjoyed teaming up with local primary school children to make decorations for our Christmas trees. This was a fun activity for all and we made some lovely memories together. Crafting has therapeutic benefits for our residents like encouraging movement and stimulating memories, which can be especially meaningful for people living with dementia.
Christmas Jumper Day & Movie Magic
We’re looking forward to Christmas Jumper Day, where residents and staff can dress in their most festive knitwear. The celebrations will continue with an afternoon of cosy Christmas films, snacks, and festive treats—a perfect way to relax and enjoy the magic of the season.
Christmas Day Celebrations
The highlight of the month will of course be Christmas Day itself. We’re planning a Christmas party, complete with thoughtful gifts, seasonal fun, and a visit from Santa himself. We’re also looking forward to welcoming friends and family to share in the day’s special moments.
Thoughtful gifts for All
Each resident will get a Christmas gift from the team—a small but heartfelt reminder of how much they mean to us. For those living with complex mental and physical health needs, thoughtful gestures like these ensure that everyone feels valued and included during the festive season.
Enjoying Christmas Together
At Alderbrook, our activities are more than just festive fun, they’re carefully planned to bring therapeutic benefits to our residents. Whether it’s the creativity of crafts, the joy of music, or the simple pleasure of sharing a cup of tea, these activities encourage social connection, boost emotional wellbeing, and create meaningful experiences.
