Alderbrook’s Open Day: A Look Back on a Great Day

On Wednesday 3rd April, Alderbrook opened its doors to the public for a special Open Day event. At this event we showcased the compassionate care and welcoming environment our Care Home provides. The event marked the beginning of our journey to showcase Alderbrook’s dedication to specialist nursing care for people living with complex physical and mental health needs like complex dementia.

The Open Day offered not just the chance to look around Silver Lodge, but also activities, food and refreshments including popcorn and candy-floss machines, and a variety of stalls offering something of interest for everyone.

Special guests included local businesses, charitable organisations and even the Leeds City Mayor, Al Garthwaite. We also welcomed sporting stars Ben Parker (former Leeds United footballer) and Leeds Rhinos’ Matt Frawley. It was great to see so many guests from our local community in Leeds, which we are very proud to be a part of.

During the Open Day, visitors had the opportunity to explore Alderbrook’s comfortable living spaces, communal areas, and outdoor spaces. Our team showed guests around, providing insights into daily life at Alderbrook.

Alderbrook’s staff includes registered nurses, healthcare assistants, an activities team and support staff. We also have an on-site Kitchen team who prepare home cooked meals for our residents using fresh ingredients, daily. Visitors had the chance to meet the team and ask any questions, learning more about our person-centred approach to care. Here, we understand and prioritise the fact that each person is different, putting in place care plans which reflect this uniqueness to support the best possible quality of life for our residents.

Our residents played a big part in the day, sharing chats with guests and enjoying the activities that had been planned. Interactions like this provide an opportunity for social connection as well as offering guests a glimpse into residents’ day-to-day lives. We work hard to create a warm community feel and a sense of belonging at Alderbrook, making it feel like home.

Silver Lodge marks the inaugural phase of our home’s opening, with additional care spaces set to open over the course of the next year, gradually unveiling the full breadth of our facilities and services.

“It was nice to see that Alderbrook’s welcoming environment really resonated with our visitors. The Open Day was a valuable opportunity for the community to see for themselves the work we do here and how we support our residents to live well with their conditions. It was a really happy day, with everyone enjoying the social side of the event with its activities and fun, which our team had worked so hard to plan and deliver. We’re very grateful to all who attended and look forward to continuing positive engagement with our local community.”
