Embarking on a 14-Year Journey in Care

Clare brings a wealth of experience to Alderbrook, with an impressive 14-year career in the care sector. With a degree in general nursing and an NVQ5 in management, her journey began after graduating from Huddersfield University in 2009.

Clare transitioned into the private healthcare sector, managing four care homes over the years, each achieving a “good” or improved CQC rating under her guidance. Her expertise spans a diverse range of care categories, from residential and general nursing to dementia care, physical disabilities, and complex care needs.

As a Peripatetic Manager, Clare honed her skills in elevating care standards, quality assurance, and clinical governance across a range of facilities. Now, as the Care Home Manager at Alderbrook, she leads on delivering the highest quality service, supporting the care team to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our residents.

Thriving on Challenges and Collaborations

The thrill of a new challenge is what excites Clare most about her role at Alderbrook. Commissioning a new home is no small feat, and Clare is enthusiastic about the incredible team she’s put together here.  Beyond that, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams across Leeds is a key aspect of her commitment to making Alderbrook a success.

The Heart of Care

For Clare, working in care is means making a real difference. It’s about leaving work each day with the satisfaction of knowing she has positively impacted the lives of the people under her care. Her genuine desire to help and support our residents makes her a perfect leader for our team at Alderbrook Care home.

A Day in the Life of our Care Home Manager

Early mornings kickstart Clare’s day, with at least one morning coffee to fuel the day ahead!

Greeting both the team and residents on arrival, she conducts a walk-around of each unit. Clare understands the importance of being visible and involved each day. Her door is always open and she’s around to help with anything that arises each day.

A mid-morning Head of Departments meeting makes sure that key information is shared, and the team have a clear picture of what needs to be done for the day. It’s a great opportunity for the team to re-group and communicate.

Clare likes to be present for mealtimes and eats with our residents as often as she can. She makes sure that food quality and the overall dining experience are the highest possible standard. Afternoons are dedicated to tasks and follow-ups, with open doors for visitors and feedback sessions.

Clare meticulously plans her busy days, making sure her to-do list is completed before heading home. Days for Clare at Alderbook can often be busy, but they’re always positive and productive too.

Beyond the Care Scene

Outside of her day job, Clare is a proud Wakefield native and a devoted mum to seven-year-old Jacob. Family time includes days out, football matches, and cherished holidays abroad, with Turkey ranking as a favourite destination.

As avid Leeds United fans, they attend games whenever possible. Clare’s involvement extends to her son’s football games, actively supporting the club through fundraising. Amidst her busy schedule, Clare enjoys shopping, exploring new places, and enjoying dog walks with the family’s much-loved dog, Ronnie.

In Clare McCourt, Alderbrook has not just a Care Home Manager but a passionate advocate for compassionate care. She is dedicated to making a meaningful impact in the lives of our residents and their families.
