A Day at the Farm

A Day At The Farm

There’s something special about spending time in nature, and our recent visit to Laneside Farm with our friends from ‘Wellbeing with Animals’ was proof of that. Residents from Alderbrook Care Home get the chance to enjoy the countryside environment, interact directly with animals, and experience the simple joy of a day out.

Getting Stuck In

One of the highlights of the trip was seeing our resident Diane enjoy a cuddle with one of the farm’s rabbits. This was a sweet moment and an opportunity for her to connect with the animals in a safe and accessible way. We’ve all known the joy of petting an animal at some point in our lives and for people living with complex physical and mental health conditions, connections like this and caring for animals, can be a really important boost to emotional wellbeing and their sense of self.

The Power of Nature and Animals

Spending time with animals is known to have a range of therapeutic benefits, and this visit was no exception. Stroking the soft coats of the rabbits, watching the sheep graze peacefully, and being entertained by the playful antics of the little pigs and spring lambs, brought a smile to everyone’s face.

Being outdoors also works wonders for overall wellbeing. The sounds of birds chirping, the warmth of the sun, and the feeling of being surrounded by nature, can help to reduce stress and lift spirits. Not to mention the obvious health benefits offered by a change of scenery, fresh air and the immunity boost provided by safe exposure to natural sunlight.

Memories to Treasure

By the time we travelled back to Alderbrook, our conversation was full of favourite moments from the day. This day trip left us all feeling refreshed, happy, and very ready for Spring.
