Respite Care

At Alderbrook Care Home in Leeds, we understand that sometimes a break from routine is what everyone needs, whether for recuperation, transition or simply a moment to refresh. Our respite care stays (minimum two weeks) are thoughtfully crafted to provide the same high standards of support as our long-term residents receive, but with a focused purpose to give individuals time, space and skilled assistance in a calm, welcoming environment. Situated on a quiet, leafy site in Leeds, Alderbrook offers en-suite rooms, landscaped gardens, and communal spaces designed to feel like home, providing both residents and their regular carers with peace of mind. Skilled staff, tailored care plans and familiar routines ensure the stay is seamless, reassuring and purposeful, so that on departure, everyone feels supported, rested and ready for whatever comes next.

What is Respite Care?

Respite care provides a short-term break from usual caregiving arrangements, offering both the individual and their family or main carer practical relief and emotional space. During a respite stay, residents receive full access to 24-hour skilled support, comfortable accommodation and meaningful daily routines tailored to their needs. Whether the goal is rest and recuperation, a smoother hospital discharge or a planned break for a carer, this type of care helps maintain continuity in health, wellbeing and social connection while respecting dignity, independence and choice.

Respite Care at Alderbrook Care Home

At Alderbrook, we welcome residents for respite stays of two weeks minimum, during which they are fully integrated into our home-like, supportive community. From the moment someone arrives, our team of qualified nurses, carers and therapists works to understand what matters most to them, their routines, preferences and goals for the short-stay period. Our newly-refurbished care home in Leeds provides en-suite accommodation, communal lounges, tailored dining, landscaped gardens and a rich activities programme, all designed with comfort and meaningful engagement in mind.

Whether someone is joining us after a hospital stay, needs a break from home support or simply wants options for more specialised care for a short time, we make the process smooth. During the stay, we deliver the same person-centred, clinical standards as our longer-term residents, including detailed assessment on admission, a bespoke care plan, daily leisure and therapy options, nutritional support and collaboration with family or home carers. The aim is to help the individual arrive at the end of their stay feeling settled, supported and with their wellbeing maintained or improved and for carers to feel rested, reassured and involved.

Our respite care is particularly suited for adults with complex physical or mental health needs, including dementia, brain injury or rehabilitation requirements. The environment is safe, friendly and familiar; the staff experienced and the focus is always on building engagement, dignity and continuity.

Once you contact our admissions team, we undertake a short assessment of care needs and preferences, check availability and work with you to plan the stay. Because Alderbrook offers high-dependency and lower-dependency support, the transition is designed to be as smooth as possible. Our goal is to start the stay with a clear care plan, so the individual and their family feel confident from day one.

Yes, although the stay is temporary, we maintain the same standards of 24-hour nursing supervision, personalised care plans and access to our full facilities and activities programme. The individual is fully part of our community for the duration, with familiar staffing where possible, so they benefit from continuity, stability and meaningful engagement rather than feeling like “just a short-term guest.”

It can, many families use a respite stay at Alderbrook as an opportunity to assess whether the environment, support and routines are the right fit. If, during or at the end of a stay, it becomes clear that longer-term care is needed, we support families through that transition. However, there is no obligation: the primary purpose of a respite stay is relief, refreshment and short-term support.
