At Alderbrook Care Home we want to support our residents to enjoy a variety of activities and enjoy the social opportunites that living in a care home has to offer. Alongside our range of activies inside and outside the home we also offer regular arts and crafts sessions that give residents the chance to get crafty, keep their hands busy and flex their creative muscles.
Having fun with arts and crafts generally has a notably positive effect on the well-being of our residents, it’s also great fun for everyone, whether they’ve been into crafty pursuits in the past or not.
For our residents who aren’t as creatively inclined, our sessions are sensitively directed by our wonderful activity coordinators. This means that our classes usually begin with a clear goal in mind, whether that’s creating a mosaic or learning how to decoupage. All of our crafts are suitable for all ages, so we actively encourage our residents to invite their children and grandchildren along to share in the creative fun.
We encourage creativity whenever we can whether that’s by taking part in the arts and craft classes in the communal spaces at Alderbrook Care Home, or using the craft materials for an activity with visiting family members. We love creating seasonal pieces of art that help anchor residents to the events of each, and they really look fantastic decorating our home all year around.
Yes, any materials or tools you may need for your arts and crafts will be covered by the weekly fee.
Residents can make whatever they like, however, examples of previously held sessions include painting, collaging, knitting, and making seasonal decorations.
Residents can keep their arts or crafts afterward. Staff may ask residents to have their work displayed around the home.
