Sensory Room – Opening Soon!

Our sensory room at Alderbrook Care Home will be a calm, purpose-designed space where residents can relax, feel safe, and enjoy moments of stillness away from the busier areas of daily life. With soft lighting, gentle sounds, soothing textures and calming scents, it will offer a peaceful setting that supports emotional wellbeing. Family members are always welcome to join their loved one during a sensory session, sharing in the experience and spending time together in a quiet, comforting environment.

Therapeutic Support Tailored to the Individual

The sensory room will play an important role in our therapeutic approach, particularly for residents living with dementia, anxiety, or sensory processing needs. Whether it’s the gentle rhythm of music, the feel of familiar textures, or calming visuals, in a sensory room, each element is used to support emotional connection, reduce agitation and promote calm. Our team will carefully tailor each session to meet the individual’s needs, helping to support memory, ease restlessness and build connections with staff and with family.

A Therapeutic Space

We see the sensory room as not only a therapeutic tool but also a shared space for residents and their loved ones to enjoy meaningful time together. We hope that families will enjoy sitting with a loved one in the sensory room, whether reminiscing over a familiar scent or enjoying a peaceful moment side by side. The room is also used to support gentle therapies, such as music, reminiscence, and tactile engagement, all of which help enhance quality of life in a gentle and reassuring way.

Garden and Outdoor Spaces

A sensory room is a calm, specially designed space that uses light, sound, texture and scent to create a relaxing and soothing environment. At Alderbrook, we use our sensory room to support wellbeing, particularly for residents living with dementia or those who benefit from a quieter, more reflective space.

We plan to open our brand new sensory room in August 2025.

For residents living with dementia, the sensory room can help reduce anxiety, improve mood and support calmness. Familiar sounds, soothing lights, and gentle tactile experiences can provide comfort and help evoke positive memories, making the space a valuable part of dementia-friendly care.

Life at Alderbrook Care Home
